Shrimp wing oil for heart health

Already in the middle of the last century, scientists determined the low frequency of heart diseases in Eskimos and explained this by a diet that contains a large amount of fish rich in fat, i.e. unsaturated fatty acids (salmon, tuna). These are omega-3 fatty acids, which have a number of important functions in the body and cannot be produced. Their influence on cardiovascular health has been considered in numerous scientific studies. Most of them confirmed their positive effect on the reduction of various undesirable cardiac events, especially arrhythmias, as well as on the reduction of the "bad" part (triglycerides), and the increase of "good" fats (HDL cholesterol), in the blood of cardiovascular patients and healthy people.

Intake of a sufficient amount of the necessary omega-3 fatty acids is difficult to achieve through diet, therefore medicines/supplements have been developed, which are also included in the recommendations of the European and American Cardiology Associations for the treatment of heart patients.

More recent studies reduce the effect of omega-3 on cardiovascular diseases, which is explained by much more aggressive treatment with fat-lowering drugs (statins) as well as changes in diet (eating more fish). A greater benefit from these drugs/dietary supplements was observed precisely in the group of people who were not treated with other drugs.

Omega 3 capsules differ in terms of content and amount of ingredients. Recently, the benefit of omega-3 produced from Atlantic shrimp ("krill") has been especially highlighted. Its advantages are a large amount of omega-3 fatty acids in the most favorable form for the body, additional antioxidant astaxanthin, and a lower presence of heavy metals that are found in increasing quantities in fish, as well as its availability. Further, better planned research on the impact of omega-3 fatty acids on cardiovascular diseases is needed, which will accurately determine the benefit of these substances in all categories of patients, as well as in the healthy population.

The general recommendation is a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, and for heart patients and people who do not consume enough fatty fish, a food supplement that contains the best combination and a sufficient amount of omega-3 fatty acids is definitely recommended.
